Two Ferals Looking - Feral Cat Photo Of The Day

Chosen for interesting composition and lighting, two feral cats eye me with suspicion, while enjoying some sunshine...

The beautiful tabby is sitting atop one of my homemade winter shelters. I try to provide several of these so that the ferals can get out of the weather. If you have ferals in your area, you might want to consider doing the same. The one shown here uses storage bins, loosely based on the design plans found HERE ...but you can make something out of cheap styrofoam packing or even build something more complex (I've done that, too) - but cats weren't designed for the harsh climates that can be found here so they need help.

Another thing I try to do is to use local throw-aways to make shelters. This requires some creative thinking but with some pondering you will find that a stack of old tires, when re-stacked just right and straw is added, can make an acceptable winter shelter for feral cats. Palettes, too. It doesn't have to look like a shelter, it just has to work like one.

We're having a rare (for this time year) bit of sun with daytime temperatures approaching 50 degrees F. For now, the cats can sun themselves...

Yet we all know that soon enough the darkness and the cold will be upon us ...and survival will be at stake. Please take care of your kitties.
